ABOUT US

We started this venture in 2019. To us, it was a dream, a challenge and a passion. We have always been unconventional and don't really fit the mold: when this opportunity came, we seized it and were determined to do something different! We are just two hilbillies who have been fortunate to have been able to travel the world before we came to settle in this very small town of Ladismith in the Klein Karoo region of South Africa. We love to roam and discover new experiences - hence the 'Gypsy' in the name - it is our ethos.

Masood loves to cook - his passion and talent is in pushing boundaries and experimenting with flavours and hence he will always try out new, exotic recipes. He thrives on your enjoyment of his meals: to him, cooking for someone is infinitely satisfying.

GIN BAR

The gin bar is our pride and speciality though. This was our biggest challenge and the one we most wanted to achieve. It is an unknown concept in the heart of farmland in the rural areas but we decided to go all out on this one and it was a case of "if not, why not?" The need was there for tourists to experience something different but more than that, we wanted to learn yet another new exciting experience. If city folk can do it, we can do it. So it started and it is an immensely rewarding roller coaster ride of learning and experiencing new things on a daily basis. The possibilities are endless and such fun: we have learnt though to never compromise on standards and integrity. At Gypsy's, attention to detail, high standards and customer satisfaction is key: this for us is totally non-negotiable. A happy journey and we have met some amazing people along the way.

OUR VENUE

We do try to offer a true magpie's nest of different services at Gypsy's with the aim of achieving a relaxed atmosphere and a happy place for visitors.
We have a colourful, large 'stoep' area from which to enjoy magnificent mountain views over a cup of coffee, a delicious meal or an indulgent G&T.
There are comfortable arm chairs in which to relax with a good book: we offer a free book exchange, there is a deli and gift shop to browse, our bar is a must see and we offer the Ladismith Visitor Centre on the premises to assist tourists with travel information.
We do try to be a one-stop shop and make visitors feel at home. Our resident cat, Chilli, is convinced of the same and would love to meet you. Pop in and say hi to her! We have an 'old' Uber from the 70's: come and see our funky yellow hippy mini! A draw card for young and old alike.
We also try to grow our own vegetables and don't be surprised to see chickens on the property: our suppliers of fresh, free range eggs.This is Gypsy's: be prepared for something out of the ordinary when you visit but expect to come as a stranger and leave as a friend. We are biker, pet and child friendly.

OUR MENU

Our aim is to introduce you to the different tastes and flavours we have picked up during our own ‘Gypsy’ travelling days. As with everything associated with Gypsy’s we try and bring ‘different’ to a plate: colour, exotic tastes and flavours to tantalise your taste buds.

We offer:

Breakfast like no other @ Gypsy's Calitzdorp was done in half a day, so with half a day to adventure, my fiancé & I decided to take a drive to Ladismith & seeing as though we've already gin taste tested our way through Calitzdorp, we figured why not try the lovely looking & highly recommended Gypsy's Gin Bar. Greeted by the owner on arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with a lovely range of Gins from which we could choose. The experience was so delightful that we had decided to return the following morning for breakfast. I already knew what I was going to have, which was the Shakshouka & also came highly recommended by the owner. Needless to say, that was by far one of the best Shakshoukas I've ever had, which also left my fiancé with food envy for most part of the day. I can't not give Gypsy's a 5* rating on service, quality & taste of food & cleanliness. My overall experience was great & highly recommend a visit whilst in Ladismith. I forget to mention that whilst enjoying our drinks & breakfast, we had the most amazing view of the Swartberg Mountain Range.
